Extra Grip Rug Pad — Ultra Non-Slip Pad for Hard Floors
The Extra Grip rug pad is built for one purpose, to keep rugs firmly in place on hard floors. Made from durable non-slip polymer-coated polyester, it delivers reliable traction on hardwood, tile and stone, laminate, and vinyl floors and stops sliding, bunching, and corner curl without adding bulk underfoot. Its low-profile, open-weave construction keeps the pad nearly invisible under the rug while providing consistent grip across the full surface.
Every Extra Grip non-slip rug pad is hand-cut by our team to your exact dimensions before it ships. All orders ship free to the continental US within 1–2 business days and at Rug Pad Direct there are no minimums, no handling fees, and custom cutting always included at no extra charge.
Non-Slip Rug Pads Best Used For
The Extra Grip pad is the right call when grip is the priority and you want to keep the pad as thin and low-profile as possible. It's best for:
- Entryways and foyers where a low-profile pad avoids a raised transition at the door and keeps entry mats firmly anchored under constant foot traffic.
- Hallways and runners on hardwood, laminate, or tile floors where the runner tends to creep forward with every step.
- Kitchens where mats need to stay flat on smooth tile or vinyl without adding noticeable height at cabinet doors or transitions.
Need grip plus cushioning? The Comfort & Grip pad adds a thin fiber layer on top for a softer feel while maintaining the same level of non-slip performance. For maximum cushion alongside grip, the Felt & Rubber collection is the better fit.
Extra Grip Rug Pad FAQs
What is the Extra Grip Rug Pad made of?
Like all of our non-slip rug pads, the Extra Grip pad is made from non-slip polymer-coated polyester with an open-weave construction. The polymer coating creates surface friction against both the floor below and the rug backing above, keeping the pad and rug together without adhesives or fasteners.
What floors is the Extra Grip pad designed for?
This pad is designed specifically for hard surface floors including hardwood, tile, laminate, stone, and luxury vinyl plank. It is not designed for carpet-on-carpet applications (which is ideal for our felt and rubber pads).
Does the Extra Grip pad provide cushioning?
No. This pad is designed for grip and stability rather than cushioning. It has a very low profile and is best for situations where keeping the rug in place is the priority without adding height underfoot. For added cushion alongside grip, the Comfort & Grip pad or Felt & Rubber collection are better fits.
Will this pad damage my hardwood floors?
No. The polymer-coated polyester construction will not scratch, stain, or leave residue on sealed hardwood or other hard floor surfaces when used as directed. It is safe for finished hardwood, tile, laminate, and LVP.
Can the Extra Grip pad be trimmed to fit?
Yes. The pad trims easily with household scissors to fit any custom size or shape. That said, every pad we ship is already hand-cut by our team to your exact rug dimensions, so most customers won't need to trim at all.
Does this pad work on vinyl plank (LVP) or laminate floors?
Yes. The polymer-coated polyester construction is safe for LVP and laminate floors and does not carry the same compatibility concerns that some rubber-backed pads do on certain vinyl finishes. That said, we always recommend checking with your flooring manufacturer if you have a specialty finish.
How is the Extra Grip pad different from the Comfort & Grip pad?
The Extra Grip pad is a bare-grip pad with a minimal profile and no fiber layer or added cushion. The Comfort & Grip pad adds a thin polyester fiber layer on top, delivering slightly more grip performance and a marginally softer feel underfoot. For most entryways and kitchens, the Extra Grip is sufficient. For living rooms and hallways where a bit more grip and feel matters, the Comfort & Grip is the better call.
Does the Extra Grip pad come with a warranty?
Yes. The Extra Grip pad is backed by a 10-year wear warranty.
How do I size my rug pad?
Size your pad approximately 1 inch smaller than your rug on all sides. A 5x8 rug, for example, takes a 4'10" x 7'10" pad. This keeps the pad hidden under the rug and prevents it from showing at the edges.
Why should I choose Rug Pad Direct?
We specialize in high-quality rug pads for every floor type. Every pad is hand-cut to your exact size by our team, backed by a 10-year warranty, and ships free to the continental US with no minimums and no shortcuts.
